Who we are
For Dean Mummery, coming to the Belleville Valley all the way back in 2015 was supposed to be for no more than a few months. Little did he know that it would be the start of something much more.
Three years later, The Rustic Chalet came to be. Here, we believe in treating our clients like family and working with them in a warm, transparent manner, ensuring their requirements are met and their hopes are fulfilled.
During our many years in the Alps, The Rustic Chalet has gained a reputation for our bespoke joinery, carefully selected interior design, and hiring of highly skilled independent local artisans, providing their own unique touch to your mountain home.
Having had his own business in the UK for 14 years, Dean has extensive experience in the world in property renovation and project management driving The Rustic Chalet forward to new milestones, including the full renovation of his own home, navigating the various challenges along the way from approval of planning permission to remaining amicable with neighbours during noisy working hours.
At The Rustic Chalet, each one of our projects has been a joy. From enthusiatic meetings and providing regular updates to ensuring the happiness and wellbeing of the artisans we hire, every step is necessary for a projects success.
Dean is a French registered Artisan. Registered with the Chambre de Métiers et de l’Artisanat de région Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur. EIRL. Siret no. 803 974 500 00016.
The Journey
From first visit to keys-in-hand.
Listening & planning
It all starts with getting to know each other. Present us your ideas and the drawings from your architect and we’ll see what we can do.
Costing & preparing
The scale of the project is costed out, trades are sourced out, dates are discussed. The renovation is almost ready to begin.
Demolition & installation
The chalet gets stripped down to a grey shell before being changed into something unrecognisable from the property you once knew.
Furniture & interiors
Whether you’re using our in-house team or have your own, it’s the right furniture and the perfect décor that transforms a simple chalet into your own masterpiece.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

The Belleville Valley has many wonderful and unique villages, steeped in their own history and deep sense of community. Unfortunately, not all of them have the safest and most accessible roads for the heavy vehicles and materials necessary for a renovation project. The villages in which we can guarantee renovations include:
- Villary
- Saint Jean De Belleville
- Saint Martin De Belleville
- Villarabout
- Saint Marcel
- Les Granges
- Les Menuires/Reberty
If the village where you’re purchasing a chalet is not on the list but is fully accessible to larger vehicles, then feel free to contact us anyway – we may be able to make an exception.
The Rustic Chalet does not operate in Val Thorens.
At The Rustic Chalet, our project management team will remain in close contact to provide regular updates and photos from your project, ensuring that you can rest easy. Many of our clients have also chosen to visit their chalets mid-renovation, which we are equally open to.
During the initial stages of the project, we will discuss realistic timelines for the completion of your project based on the state of our current schedule, the availability of our trades, and possible delays that may arise from the scale of the project, such as the approval of any exterior modifications to the house by the local council.
